Our mission

From informal to recognized

Over 90% of India’s workforce is informal. Our mission is to formalize that work — turning invisible labour into recognized, protected, and empowered livelihoods.

Indian workers
What we stand for

Formalizing what has long been informal.

India’s informal sector — domestic workers, drivers, cooks, construction and factory hands, gig and daily-wage workers — powers the country’s everyday life. Yet most of them work without contracts, without social security, and without any official record of the value they create.

Workers of India exists to change that. We formalize the informal: helping workers claim an official identity through the e-Shram card, understand the government welfare schemes they are entitled to, and put fair terms in writing through simple digital contracts.

Formalization is not just paperwork — it is power. When a worker is counted, they can be protected. When they know their rights, they can claim them. Our mission is to move India’s informal workforce from dependency to dignity, and from silence to structure — one recognized worker at a time.

e-Shram card explained

The essentials

  • The e-Shram Card is a government identity card made for informal workers — like house helps, construction workers, delivery workers, drivers, cleaners, security guards, and more.
  • It is issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
  • The card contains your name, age, job type, Aadhaar number, and a 12-digit unique ID number (UAN).
  • It is part of a national database that helps the government identify and support unorganized workers.
  • Once you get the card, it becomes easier to access government benefits — like insurance, pensions, health care, and skill training.
  • It is completely free to make — no charges, no fees.
  • The e-Shram Card is valid across India and does not need to be renewed right now.
  • Getting this card means your work is officially recognized, and you now have proof, protection, and power as a worker.
