e-Shram card explained

The essentials

  • The e-Shram Card is a government identity card made for informal workers — like house helps, construction workers, delivery workers, drivers, cleaners, security guards, and more.
  • It is issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
  • The card contains your name, age, job type, Aadhaar number, and a 12-digit unique ID number (UAN).
  • It is part of a national database that helps the government identify and support unorganized workers.
  • Once you get the card, it becomes easier to access government benefits — like insurance, pensions, health care, and skill training.
  • It is completely free to make — no charges, no fees.
  • The e-Shram Card is valid across India and does not need to be renewed right now.
  • Getting this card means your work is officially recognized, and you now have proof, protection, and power as a worker.
